Air-Fried Chicken Wings with Homemade Ras El Hanout

What is it about chicken wings that we all just can’t resist? Is it because the meat is moist and succulent, or that the skin is always so satisfyingly crispy? Or is it because they’re small so you get to taste the intense flavor of the marinade all the way around the wing?

Spicy, fragrant, and flavorsome chicken wings are such a delicious and irresistible treat, and I have just the recipe for you with my ras el hanout chicken wings.

These chicken wings are so tender, yet the skin on the outside is perfectly crispy because they are cooked in the air fryer. So, fire up the air fryer, and raid your spice rack – here is a delicious recipe for air fryer chicken wings with ras el hanout marinade for you.

WHAT IS RAS EL HANOUT?

Ras el hanout is one of my favorite spice blends as it is such a delicate balance of fragrant, spicy, hot, and sweet. As a result, it is rich in flavor and is a delicious punch to your taste buds – the good kind of punch!

Original from North Africa, ras el hanout is frequently used in various tagines and stews, or on meats including chicken, throughout the region including Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. However, the recipe for ras el hanout is a mystery. No two blends of the spice mix are the same as some include more spices, others have different quantities, and more recipes base theirs on taste rather than the number of spoonfuls. Some ras el hanout recipes include 100 ingredients!

My recipe for ras el hanout does not have 100 ingredients, so you don’t need to run out to the grocery store! I based my recipe on the favorite fragrant spices in the spice rack and it includes:

  • Cumin
  • Ginger
  • Coriander
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • Cayenne
  • Black pepper

These seven spices create a delicate balance of sweetly spiced heat and is incredibly aromatic. Your kitchen will smell incredible as the scent fills the air, and you’ll find interested family members poking their heads around the kitchen door, ready for dinner!

QUICK AIR FRYER CHICKEN WINGS RECIPE

If you love crispy, crunchy, golden fries, mozzarella sticks, and of course chicken wings, but you really hate the fact they are bad for your health, then I really recommend you try an air fryer.

Air fryers do not ‘fry’ – they are actually mini convection ovens, and because the food is in a small compact space with evenly circulating heat, every time your fries and chicken wings will emerge perfectly crispy, without being dropped in fat!

Plus, by cooking your chicken wings in an air fryer, they reach crispy-skinned perfection in a third of the time than they would in the oven!

I know, I couldn’t believe it either!

Air fryers make those tempting recipes a little bit easier, quicker, and more convenient. With an oven, cooking can feel like a long laborious project as you have to wait for the oven to preheat, and for your food to cook. With an air fryer, you can cut this wait time down by at least half an hour!
