Easy Brazilian Homemade Lemonade Recipe In 2 Ways

Today, I will show you how to make Brazilian homemade lemonade in 2 fantastic ways. They are both incredibly easy, relatively quick, and packed with flavor!

The special thing about these 2 recipes is that I use the entire limes. And when I say entire, I mean skin and all!

Of course, it makes the drink a bit more bitter. However, the zest is a great way to add a zesty tart flavor. This slightly bitter flavor is balanced by sweet condensed milk.

And, if you like Brazilian cuisine, you can go check out some of my other delicious traditional recipes. I especially like the Fajitas Des Res and the Brazilian Coxinha recipes.

What Is Brazilian Lemonade Made Of?

Brazilian homemade lemonade is one of my favorite easy-to-make drinks. It is packed with lots of flavors and has a sweet and sour flavor.

What makes this lemonade even more special is that you make it with condensed milk. You read that right! Not only does it add a ton of creaminess but also helps create a sweet flavor.

Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately, there are hundreds of different variations of Brazilian lemonade recipes. For this reason, I also included my second favorite recipe.

You make the second version with coconut milk. But, if you have looked at other recipes, you will see that people use virtually any type of dairy product that they like.

If you want to, you can also use lemons instead of limes. But, you make traditional Brazilian lemonade with limes.

And finally, the texture and consistency of these lemonades also vary greatly. One recipe I will share today has a slushy consistency. The other is more like traditional juice-based lemonade.

Tips And Tricks To Make The Best Brazilian Homemade Lemonade

  • If you decide to extract the lime juice instead of using entire limes, the best way to extract as much juice from the limes as possible is to microwave them for 20 seconds. That helps the flesh to become softer so that it releases more flavorful liquid.
  • If you want to make a Brazilian lemonade slushy, you can blend the ingredients together with some ice. Use a little less liquid to make sure that the ice can create a slushy texture.
  • You can use lemons instead of limes for this homemade lemonade recipe. But, the traditional Brazilian lemonade recipes all use limes.
  • As with any beverage recipe, you can easily adjust the sweetness. In this recipe, you can add more or less condensed milk and sugar. You can also use sugar alternatives.

FAQs

Is Brazilian homemade lemonade healthy?

I wouldn’t necessarily call this lemonade a healthy drink. Even though it is mostly lime juice and water, you also have a bunch of sugar in the form of condensed milk and granulated sugar.

However, please don’t think that you will gain a ton of weight from this drink. Anything in moderation is completely fine and can be enjoyed guilt-free. And, as I have said before, you can cut down on some sugar in the recipe.

How do you prevent Brazilian homemade lemonade from curdling?

You only risk curdled beverages if you use a dairy product. Condensed milk contains enough sugar that it is very unlikely to curdle. And in the second recipe, coconut milk should not curdle with acid.

Now, if you use a dairy product from an animal, the mixture could separate. So, the best way to avoid this is by blending the ingredients together and serving them immediately.

What is Swiss lemonade?

Swiss lemonade is another type of Brazilian lemonade. Don’t ask me why this name is so confusing or where it originated. But essentially, you make this type of lemonade with blended whole limes and water.

What does homemade Brazilian lemonade taste like?

This lemonade is very unique because of the added condensed milk and sugar. But, the overall flavor of these drinks depends on all the additives on top of those I mentioned above. So, for example, the first recipe I am making today has a super creamy texture with sweet and bitter flavors. But, the second recipe (with added coconut milk) has a more tropical flavor.

If you use almond milk instead of coconut milk, the flavor profile will differ too. Overall, no matter which you make, these drinks are extremely refreshing.

Can you make homemade milk lemonade in advance?

You can make both of my lemonade recipes in advance. However, you should keep this lemonade slushy in the freezer and re-blended it before serving. Otherwise, the mixture will simply melt and become a juice.

Using an airtight container, the first recipe (without the coconut milk) can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Ingredients

Brazilian Lemonade

  • 4 large limes
  • 5-6 cups water
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp condensed milk
  • Ice

Brazilian Lemonade With Coconut Milk

  • 4 large limes
  • 3 tbsp condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup brown granulated sugar
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1 cup ice
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

Brazilian Lemonade

  • To start your Brazilian homemade lemonade recipe, wash the limes and cut them into pieces. If you prefer to juice them instead of using the entire fruits, you can do so as well.
  • Next, combine the lime pieces or the freshly squeezed lemon juice with water, sugar, and condensed milk. Adding these to a pitcher is more convenient. Whisk the ingredients together until they are well combined.
  • Pass the mixture through a sieve into a large jug.
  • Finally, pour the lemonade into ice-filled glasses and serve it immediately.

Brazilian Lemonade With Coconut Milk

  • For the second version of Brazilian homemade lemonade, we will make lemonade slushy. To start, again, either cut the limes if you like the zesty flavor or juice all of your limes.
  • Then, combine the limes or the lime juice, condensed milk, brown sugar, coconut milk, and water in a blender.
  • Blend the ingredients and then pass the mixture through a sieve.
  • Add the ice and blend again until you have a uniform slushy mixture.
  • Serve it immediately while it's still semi-frozen. If you don't want to or have any leftover lemonade slushy, store it inside the freezer. You will need to re-blend it before serving it again.
