How Long To Cook Sweet Potatoes In Air Fryer

Sweet potato cubes take about 15–20 minutes at 400ºF. Smaller cubes cook faster, larger ones slower. Lowering the temperature to 360°F can add 5–15 minutes, so 400°F is best for crispy results.

How to Cut Sweet Potatoes into Cubes

First, cut off the ends of the sweet potato and discard them. Slice it lengthwise, choosing your preferred thickness; thicker slices mean larger cubes.

Then, cut each slice into strips, and finally, cut the strips into evenly sized cubes so they cook evenly in the air fryer.

How To Use These Sweet Potato Cubes

They’re also great as a side dish with things like We Bare Bears Calzones, Crispy Mac and Cheese Bites, or my Krabby Patty Burger. You can also toss them into salads, pasta, or even casseroles. I love using them in lasagna or a Chicken Kale Salad.

Keesha’s Tips & Tricks

  • Scrub Them Well: Sweet potatoes can hold onto a lot of dirt, so I always scrub them with a veggie brush.
  • Uniform Cubes = Even Cooking: Aim for ½–1 inch cubes so they cook at the same rate.
  • Keep the Skins On: I usually leave the skins on; they get nice and crispy in the air fryer and add a little extra texture. But if you prefer them peeled, go for it!
  • Give Them Space: Don’t crowd the basket. I spread the cubes out in a single layer so they crisp up beautifully. When they’re packed in, they steam instead of fry.

How to Store Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat in the air fryer or oven to restore the crispy texture.

FAQs about Air Fryer Sweet Potato Cubes

Some people soak them to remove starch for extra crispiness, but it’s not necessary. My method gives you perfectly crispy bites without the extra step.

It usually comes down to low temperature or overcrowding. Both make the sweet potatoes steam instead of crisp up.

They lose crispiness over time, but you can re-crisp them before serving. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge, then pop them back in the air fryer or oven to bring them back to life.

Yes! Let them cool completely, then freeze in a single layer. Once frozen, transfer to a bag or container. They’ll keep for up to 1 month. Reheat straight from frozen or thaw in the fridge first.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch cubed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2-1 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary leaves, finely crushed
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  • First, preheat the air-fryer to 400ºF (200ºC). If you'd like, you can line the air-fryer basket with parchment paper.
  • Wash and clean the sweet potatoes. Cut away any bad bits and pat them dry.
  • Dice the sweet potatoes into bite-sized pieces. I like to make my cubes roughly 1/2-inch big.
  • Once cubed, place all of the sweet potatoes inside a large mixing bowl.
  • Add all spices and the olive oil. Toss the ingredients together well to ensure all of the sweet potato cubes have been coated.
  • Place the seasoned bites into the air-fryer basket. Make sure they don't overlap.
  • Fry the pieces for roughly 15-20 minutes. You can give them a toss around the 10-minute mark.
  • Only once the sweet potato bites are crispy can you remove them. They should be fully cooked, tender, and crunchy! Serve them with your favorite sauce or meal.
