Ingredients

FOR THE FRENCH TOAST:

  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 baguette approx. 200g

FOR THE CARAMEL SAUCE:

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F / 200°C.
  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, cardamon, cinnamon, and vanilla. Then set aside.
  • Cut the baguette into 2-inch / 5 cm slices.
  • In a large flat baking dish, pour in half of the egg mixture and add the bread in a single layer, then add the rest of the egg mixture over the bread and turn it once. Let it soak for 10-15 minutes in the fridge or until all the custard is absorbed.
  • Bake it covered in aluminum foil for 15 minutes, and in the meantime prepare the caramel sauce. Take a small bowl and add the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir to combine.
  • Take the French toast out of the oven, remove the foil and drizzle the caramel sauce over the top. Bake it uncovered for 10 more minutes or until golden.
  • Serve hot with strawberries and maple syrup.
