What Is In Fry Seasoning Hello Fresh?
There is a lot of speculation on exactly what the Hello Fresh fry seasoning ingredients are. However, if you buy a meal kit that includes this seasoning, the back of the package will give it all away.
The original seasoning only contains garlic powder, paprika, and onion powder. That’s it!
Now the real question is, what are the ratios of these ingredients? I mean, if you mix 1 cup of paprika with one teaspoon of garlic and onion powder, you will basically only taste paprika. So how do you get that signature Hello Fresh fry seasoning flavor?
Luckily, I did the hard work for you guys. I spent hours and hours mixing and testing various ratios. Finally, I think I found the ultimate combination of these three ingredients.

How To Make Hello Fresh Fry Seasoning
It’s really easy. All that you need is 3 parts garlic powder, 3 parts paprika, and 2 parts onion powder.

Another way to look at it is by using one tablespoon of garlic powder, one tablespoon of paprika, and 2/3 tablespoon (2 teaspoons) of onion powder.
I told you it was easy!
Now, you can obviously just buy pre-made spices from the store. Some of them, like paprika, you cannot make at home.
But if you want the freshest and purest flavor, you can try to make your own garlic and onion powder at home. And trust me: it’s incredibly easy!
All that you need to do is dehydrate some sliced onion and garlic pieces. Once they are completely dried, you can pulverize them in a blender until they form a fine powder.
The benefit of making your own spices at home is that you know they haven’t been excessively processed, they will have the best flavor, and the mixture doesn’t contain any chemical or artificial additives.

Variations For This Recipe
Now, while the original recipe is quite simple and straightforward, there are a lot of ways you can spice it up – get it?
But all jokes aside, you can adjust this spice blend in an unlimited amount of ways. Sure, it changes the whole “copycat HelloFresh fry seasoning” part of it. But there are no rules that say you aren’t allowed to make it your own!

The smallest variation you can make is to use smoked paprika instead of regular paprika. The change may seem small, and it is. But the difference it makes in the flavor is monumental!
Then, you can add more spices. I personally love adding some black pepper powder. If you are making a textured fry seasoning blend (with onion and garlic flakes and granules), you can add freshly ground black pepper.
I also love adding chili powder or cayenne pepper. Anything with a little bit of spice. You can also use Scezhuan pepper, habanero chili powder, or anything else you like.
And, as with the garlic and onion powder, you can make your own spicy spice from the chilies of your choice.
Another way I’ve seen many people change this spice is by adding some coriander and cumin. This will give the spice a little more of an Asian undertone. Use ground coriander and cumin, or make your own at home.
And finally, this one I also love, but you have to use it in a very specific way. I love this blend with red meats in particular.
Now, all of that being said and done, again, there is no limit to how you can change this Hello Fresh fry seasoning recipe.
How To Use This Fry Seasoning Recipe
Hello Fresh themselves recommends using one tablespoon of fry seasoning per 1 1/2 pounds of ingredients (meats, veggies, or whatever else you are making). So ultimately that’s one teaspoon for every half pound of ingredients.

I initially thought that this may be too little to actually make a big impact. Again, after some experimenting, I definitely realized that this spice blend is potent, and a little goes a long way.
You can use the spice mix on vegetables like sweet potatoes, potatoes, pumpkin, butternut, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and beans.

FAQs
As far as I can tell, the only way to get your hands on their spice blends is by ordering a kit from them directly. Alternatively, you can buy it from Seasoned Pioneers, which are the spice suppliers for Hello Fresh. Other than these two options, I couldn’t find any other way to buy these.
This seasoning is traditionally used for spicing up french fries or potato wedges. However, the list of uses has ever since grown dramatically! It’s so easy to use on a wide variety of vegetables and even meats.
If you cannot find the Hello Fresh fry seasoning blend or don’t have the ingredients to make your own, there are some alternatives. It’s similar to seasoned salt. So anything you can find that contains mainly paprika and garlic powder will work best. There are also other brands that sell fry seasoning.
You can store your homemade Hello Fresh fry seasoning the same way you would other spices. Keep them inside an airtight container in a cool and dark place.
