INGREDIENTS

For the beignet dough – Lukewarm water – Caster sugar – Active dry yeast – Egg – Buttermilk

In the bowl of a stand mixer, or in a large bowl combine lukewarm water, sugar, and active dry yeast.

Add beaten egg, buttermilk, melted cooled butter, vanilla extract, salt, and mix well together.

Add in a small portion of the sifted flour while the mixer is running or while you are mixing with your hands.

Variations

I like to play around with different shapes, such as smaller hearts or flower-shaped beignets.

Should beignets be chewy

Kind of, but not chewy like a bagel. Remember, beignets are a type of donut.
