Kenyan Cabbage

Keesha's Kenyan Cabbage

This delicious cabbage recipe is another vegetarian dish which is quick and simple to prepare and fits into every schedule. The dish originates from Kenya and is usually served with ugali together with grilled meat or fish. It is a light and healthy side dish and only takes a few minutes.

If you have seen some of my other Kenyan recipes you may have noticed that most Kenyan cuisines are suitable for vegetarians. I hope you enjoy this original taste of Kenyan food.

Kenyan Cabbage Sider

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes


  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 1 green cabbage, chopped
  • Salt and pepper



First of all, fry the onions and tomatoes in the oil until they turn brown.


Add the cabbage and stir it on low heat.


It should cook for about 2-3 minutes.


Remove it from the stove once the cabbage starts turning crispy.


Enyoy it with ugali or rice together with meat or fish.


If you don’t like cabbage, you can also use spinach or sukuma wiki instead.
